ZEN MOTION

Presented by Tias Little at Indigo Yoga Studio in Fort Worth, TX (2 hours)

“Zen Motion” embodies the essence of our practice, investigating and practicing the clear nature of mind. In this course we look to activate wakefulness not only in asana, but in standing, walking, sitting and lying down. We train on and off the mat, alone or together, resting still or moving. The aim of our practice is to see into the “original brightness” of our awareness itself, not as a static, isolated event had on the meditation cushion or in asana, but in the midst of everyday events. We train so that all moments, no matter the moment, occur in the bright field of our wakeful state. This awareness is ordinary, not contrived, or polished, or sacred-- but ordinary. As my Tibetan teacher Tsoknyi Rinpoche said, this mind is “more ordinary than ordinary mind”. Included are excerpts from various Zen teaching sources.

LYMPHATIC YOGA - Supporting the Immune System

Presented by Tias Little at Indigo Yoga Studio in Fort Worth, TX (3 hours)

Having a strong defense system and strong immunity is in many regards the ultimate aim of a yoga practice. This class reviews how yoga postures can create a healthy and radiant immune system. We will look at yoga practice as preventative medicine particularly for warding off the flu and respiratory tract infection. To that end, the practice sequences are designed as a tonic for the glands and membranes especially around the throat, jaw and upper chest. We will review the primary function of the lymphatic system in order to discover how yoga postures aid in the irrigation of lymph fluid throughout the lymph nodes and vessels in the body. We will look at how various postures (shoulderstand, twists, half-lotus, “legs up the wall pose”) effect the various lymph channels. In addition we will review the power of “psychic immunity”, that part of our mind and bodies that must mindfully ward off negative emotion.

Weekend Workship with Tias Little

Presented by Tias Little at Dallas Yoga Center in Dallas TX, 4525 Lemmon Ave. Ste. 305, 75219 214 443-9642 www.dallasyogacenter.com (12 hours)

Tias Little brings to his teaching a wonderful play of metaphor and imagination. He is trained in Iyengar and Ashtanga vinyasa yoga and his perspective clearly reflects the Buddha’s teachings. Tias has been a student of Dzogchen practice of Tibetan Buddhism since 2003 studying with Tsoknyi Rinpoche, and he has practiced Zen meditation since 1992. Tias’ teaching specializes in yoga and anatomy, blending both Western and Eastern perspectives. He is a licensed massage therapist, has studied extensively in cranialsacral therapy and Somatics. Tias earned a Masters degree in Eastern Philosophy from St. John's College. He currently directs Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe New Mexico with his wife Surya and leads yoga intensives both nationally and internationally. The Middle Way Saturday Morning 1/22/11 9:15am - 12:15 pm The Middle Way is a place free from extremes, extremes that polarize and isolate and cause imbalance. The Middle Way path is accessible mystically and physiologically as our central axis through the body. One of the names for the mid line is the Madhya Nadi or middle channel. This class explores the Middle Way in the practice of the dharma and in aligning the vertebrae, discs and surrounding musculature of the spine. Unwinding the Neck Saturday Afternoon 1/22/11 1:15pm - 4:15 pm I always joke with my students that chiropractors make their living adjusting imbalances in the neck given that neck pain is so common! This class is aimed to release foreshortening in the neck muscles and compression around the nerves and discs of the neck region. Neck pain frequently results in head- aches, insomnia, jaw strain and fatigue. Given that the neck is so tied into the shoulders, this class will address the ways that neck tension is coupled with shoulder restriction. We will use non-force techniques to unwind tension in the neck, particularly with spiral movements for the neck and shoulders Unwinding the Back Sunday Morning 1/23/11 9:15am - 12:15 pm Lower back compression is so common in our culture-- 85% of our society suffers from low back pain at some point in their lives. Typically this pain is due to asymmetrical strain patterns, i.e excess tightness one side of the body. The class aims to release constriction in the lumbar and sacral area through gliding and rocking and stretching movements. In particular, our aim is to unglue the tightness in the muscles, tendons and ligaments by irrigating blood into the lower spine and sacrum. Lymphatic Yoga: Supporting the Immune Sunday Afternoon 1/23/11 1:15pm- 4:15 pm Yoga practice is preventative medicine, particularly for warding off the flu and respiratory tract infections. We’ll review the primary function of the lymphatic system; discover how yoga postures aid in the irrigation of lymph fluid; and practice sequences targeted at the glands and membranes around the throat, jaw, and upper chest. In addition we will review the power of “psychic immunity”, that part of our mind and bodies that must mindfully ward off negative emotion. Through asana, meditation, mantra and visualization this class serves to build “psychic immunity” by developing a positive and purifying attitude.

Your body needs similar attention or it will feel heavy and stagnant rather than light and airy. This workshop will explore 6 yogic cleansing processes (shatkarma kriyas) described in the ancient yoga text the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (II:23): These shatkarma which effect purification of the body are secret. They have manifold, wondrous results and are held in high esteem by eminent yogis. Spring Cleaning Yoga-Style will include: A 90-minute Jivamukti yoga class.
